Convert a Chase checking statement to a QuickBooks Online CSV

This page shows one job from start to finish: a Chase checking statement PDF goes in, a CSV you can upload to QuickBooks Online comes out. It uses a sample statement we made up, so you can see exactly what you would get before you touch your own.

Or preview your own Chase statement:

The sample statement

Every name, number and transaction in the sample is invented. Our test generator made it. It is not a real Chase statement and it does not copy how Chase's statements look. It is a plain page laid out the way PaperRows expects a Chase checking statement to be: one transaction table with a date, description, amount and running balance on each row, and dates printed without a year. Every page says SYNTHETIC TEST DATA at the top.

What you can download

  • The sample statement (PDF). The file we feed the converter.
  • The QuickBooks Online CSV the converter makes from it. Three columns, Date, Description and Amount. Dates are MM/DD/YYYY with the year filled in from the statement period. Money in is positive, money out is negative.

Both are free, in the box next to the converter at the top of this page. Open the PDF next to the CSV and check any row you like.

How we checked the CSV

The generator wrote down the expected rows for this statement while it drew the PDF, from the same made-up records and without running PaperRows. The converter then reads the PDF on its own. Its QuickBooks Online CSV matches those expected rows, row for row.

What that does not tell you: that every Chase statement will read this cleanly, or that QuickBooks accepts the file. We have not yet run this CSV through a QuickBooks Online import ourselves. The columns follow Intuit's published upload instructions, and the QuickBooks Online import guide has the steps and says the same thing at the top.

Try it in your browser

Click Try the sample. It loads the sample PDF into the same converter you would use for your own file and shows the real preview: every row, the row count, the opening and closing balance, and the checks against the totals printed on the statement. The preview runs in your browser. You do not need a file of your own, and you do not pay anything.

Do it with your own statement

  1. Get the monthly statement PDF from chase.com, under Statements & documents. An activity printout from the transactions page will not read. The Chase help page walks through it.
  2. Choose it in the converter at the top of this page. The preview is free, runs in your browser and shows every row before you pay; the file is never uploaded. If your file is a layout we do not know, it says so before you pay.
  3. If it looks right, pay $5 for that statement and download the QuickBooks Online CSV, plus a plain CSV with the page and line of each row. It is a one-time payment through Stripe. No account, no subscription needed.

Checking statements only for now, personal or small business. Scans, savings and credit card statements are not read yet.

PaperRows is independent and is not connected with JPMorgan Chase or with Intuit. We name Chase and QuickBooks only so you know which files this page is about. PaperRows is a product of Fenrir Foundation, so Stripe checkout shows that name.
