One thing up front: you get a CSV, not an Excel workbook (.xlsx). Excel opens a CSV like any other spreadsheet, and you can save it as a workbook from there.
Wells Fargo support is in beta. No real Wells Fargo statement has been through our full review yet, so we call it beta. We read it with the same checks as every other bank, and if a row is wrong, the refund rule covers it.
Convert your Wells Fargo statement. The preview is free, and the file never leaves your browser.
How to get it into Excel
- Download the statement from wellsfargo.com. Sign in on a computer, find Statements and Documents, pick the checking account and the month, and save the PDF with the download icon in the viewer. Not a printout and not a scan. The Wells Fargo help page has the full steps.
- Drop the PDF into the converter. PaperRows reads it in your browser. The file is not uploaded.
- Look over the free preview. Every transaction, with the page and line it came from, and the checks against the totals on the statement. If PaperRows cannot read the file, it tells you why before you pay anything.
- Pay $5 and click Download plain CSV. One payment unlocks that statement. You also get a QuickBooks Online CSV if you need one.
- Open the CSV in Excel. Use File > Open, or double-click the file if Excel is your spreadsheet app.
What you will see in Excel
The plain CSV has these columns:
| page | line | date | description | amount | balance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 14 | 2026-12-30 | CARD PURCHASE 12/29 HARDWARE STORE | -42.18 | 1957.82 |
| 2 | 15 | 2026-12-31 | PAYROLL DEPOSIT | 2400.00 | 4357.82 |
| 3 | 3 | 2027-01-02 | CHECK 1187 | -650.00 | 3707.82 |
(These are made-up example rows, not real data.)
- One amount column. Money in is positive, money out is negative. In the Transaction history layout, where Wells Fargo prints money in and money out in separate columns, PaperRows folds them into this one signed column.
- page and line point at the exact spot on the PDF, so you can check any row against the statement.
- Balance where the statement prints one. The single-table layout prints a balance on every row. The Transaction history layout prints one only on the last transaction of each day, so the other rows of that day have an empty balance.
- No formulas. If a description starts with
=,+,-or@, it gets an apostrophe in front so Excel does not treat it as a formula.
Which Wells Fargo statements work
- Personal checking, in the single-table layout and, in beta, the Transaction history layout used by many Everyday Checking statements.
- Small business checking, in the single-table layout.
- Not yet: savings, credit cards, and statements that combine several accounts.
- Text PDFs only. Scans and password-protected files are refused.
Checked against your statement
PaperRows adds up what it found and compares it with the totals printed on the statement. If a check fails, the preview names the check and shows no rows and nothing to buy. We never guess a row to make the numbers work.
Matching totals cannot prove every row is right, so look over the preview before you pay. If a row is wrong, missing or extra, you get a full refund.
What it costs
The preview is free and needs no account. Downloading the CSV files for a statement costs $5. No subscription needed.
